nightlife / walks

Hello! I ‘m George Spiliopoulos aka DJ GSP. I am an international DJ and music producer, having spun almost everywhere in the world. I have also been the owner of the record label Queen House Music for the last 3 years. I was born and raised in Athens so my blood is pure Greek. I have lived in many cities around the word but my heart is still in Athens. Currently, I am based in Rio De Janeiro. I have to admit that Brazil and Greece have many things in common, good and bad, but they both have the most unique beauties in the world.

I would highly recommend Athens for gay tourists as there are spots you may discover by yourself and be stunned. Athens may not be the most beautiful of European capitals on the outside but don’t let your eyes fool you. Sure, it doesn’t have the elegance and architectural appeal of other cites but Athens makes up for it with amazing and historic sites and a vibrant scene found in its bars, clubs, restaurants, and cafes. Athens is the place where you’ll find the largest and most progressive gay scene year-round. Gazi is one of the more popular neighborhoods and you’ll find plenty of gay and gay-friendly venues in this area. There have been gay bars and clubs in the Gazi area for the last decade, but Athens nightlife has progressed a lot since the opening of the most significant gay nightclubs in the world. “The Apartment” Athens club opened 4 years ago in a different location than that in which it is located now, bringing house and circuit house music to the ears of the Athenian crowd. What a success! I remember, being a resident dj every Saturday night and the queues of the people trying to get in. Two years later it moved to a more central spot, in Gazi, the formal gay area (not so much over the last years as it has become more mainstream – well gay is in fashion). The Apartment Athens club still is the hottest spot in Athens gay (and not just) nightlife, keeping the tradition of the breathtaking theme parties every Saturday night, guest brand parties from all over the world and many guest dj’s, dancers, actors and porn stars of the international gay scene. Me, I continue spin there every time I visit Athens. Apart from the gay nightlife, you will find a great variety of Gay Saunas and Gay Friendly Hotels located in the heart of Athens. Another significant event, grows each year , is the Athens Gay Pride (usually at the beginning of June), which with many activities, live concerts and party festivals. It is definitely a reason for gay tourists to visit Athens this time of the year.

Apart from all the above, we left the best till last (concerning all tourists).
Acropolis & Parthenon: One of the most visited monument in the world – definitely Greece’s most famous. In terms of execution and conception, the Parthenon is the finest monument on the Acropolis. Consider taking a guided tour to get the full story.
The Acropolis Museum: Ancient Greek artifacts meet modern and cutting-edge design. Well worth the visit.
Temple of Olympian Zeus: You can see this from just about everywhere, but up close and personal is a must! The temple is the big draw but be sure to visit the gardens north of it.
Plaka neighborhood: Eat and shop… our favorites! Restaurants and shops on every corner with a busy, bustling atmosphere.
Pandrossou Street Market: Great prices on more food and more. This is a cool area of town with plenty of shops, stands and street performances.
So for all of you who will chose Athens for your vacation, enjoy our beautiful city
