Just 30 minutes from the center of Athens, you can find this amazing place: VOULIAGMENIS’ LAKE It is a true hidden treasure situated on an idyllic landscape. The lake’s waters are continuously replenished both by the sea and the underground thermal springs and offer a natural and unique thermal spa experience. The healing properties of the natural springs are a result of the water’s high concentration in salts and minerals like sodium, potassium, lithium, calcium, iron, ammonium and iodine. Lake Vouliagmenis can be a whole day experience, since it also contains an all-day café/bar-restaurant using the best Greek products in the premises.
If you want to go for a walk in the center of Athens and suddenly be transported to a Greek island… Anafiotika is the place for you. Well hidden on the north side of the Acropolis, the small neighborhood is reachable by small streets that seem to lead nowhere. The streets and small houses are picturesque and there is no doubt, you will take some of the best pictures during your holidays in Greece there!
Lycabettus Hill is higher than the Acropolis. Legend has it that Athena accidentally created Lycabettus, when she dropped a rock she was going to use for the construction of the Acropolis. The place is not that touristic and it is one of the best mini-hikes in the city. You may sweat a bit, but be sure that you will enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the whole city! And then you can enjoy some expensive shopping in the high-end area of Kolonaki, just underneath the hill.
The Numismatic Museum of Athens is one of the most important museums of Greece and houses one of the greatest coin collections, ancient and modern, in the world. Another true gem is this “collection” is courtyard of the museum with its beautiful café. On a sunny day you can sit in the garden, which is full of flowers and reproductions of Greek statues. Keep an eye on the events’ calendar of the place, since the museum organizes live jazz concerts in this beautiful garden.
